Help Using The Online Catalogue
Welcome to the SMSA Library Catalogue. Anyone is welcome to browse the catalogue. If you are a member, you may log in to access additional features.
You can search the catalogue from any computer with access to the Web. We recommend Mozilla Firefox, though other web browsers such as Internet Explorer will render most pages correctly.
You can navigate through the catalogue by clicking once on the menu options or by using the Back and Forward buttons of your browser. If you are using your home computer you may print any page by using the Print function of your browser. The Library does not have facilities for members to print documents.
Simple Search
Simply key any word into the Search box and click once on 'Search the Catalogue'.
A list of results will appear.
Click on the Title of an item to see more details. The Status information is available in real time.
To perform another search, click on 'Catalogue Home' at the left of screen.
Advanced Search
If you would like to narrow your search, click the 'Advanced Search' button at left of screen. Enter search criteria to one or more fields (you may leave any (or most) fields blank). Then click on 'Start search'. The results display is the same as for a 'Simple' search.
Log in to Access Additional Features
If you are a member of SMSA you may log in to access additional features. Click on 'Log in' at the left of screen to return to the Log In page. You will need a Username and Password. These will be given to you by the Library. Contact the library if you do not know your user name or password.
Enter your username and password and click once on the 'login' button. Your user name is not case sensitive, however your password is. If your password is not recognized, check that you do not have your Caps Lock key activated.
When you have finished using the catalogue you should log out. This is important when you are using the computers at the library, as you will be followed by other members who should use their own login. To log out, click on the 'Log out' button at left of screen.
Your Personal Details (Personal Page)
When you log in your details will be displayed. Are they up to date? If not, click on 'Update Record'. You may then make changes to your details. A mobile phone number may be added in the 'Work/Fax phone' field if you wish. Submit the changes to the library by clicking the 'Submit' button. The changes will be validated by the librarian before being added to the display.
Use the Back button of your browser to return to your personal page or select another option from the buttons at left of screen.
You may also change your password by clicking on the 'Change your password' button. Enter your current password, then the new password twice and click on 'Submit Changes'. The new password will be valid immediately.
Biblio Basket
The function of the Biblio Basket is to enable you to create a list of books you would like to read. Your basket is personal to you. To create a BiblioBasket you must first search the catalogue for items. You then select items by checking the box to the left of the item and clicking on the button labeled 'Add checked items to Biblio Basket'.
Next, click on the Biblio Basket at left of screen to see the items in your basket. Buttons are provided to enable you to delete from your basket, email the basket to yourself or someone else, print the list you could then bring to the library and close the basket.
The basket will empty when you log out.
Reserve an Item
To place a reserve on an item, search for the item in the catalogue and when you have found it, simply click on the 'Request' button. If the item is already reserved, the number of reserves will be shown. To confirm your request, set the pick-up branch to SMSA (use the drop down menu) and click on 'Submit'. When the item becomes available it will be held for you at the library for two weeks. A maximum of 5 items can be reserved.
Suggestions
This page enables you to suggest to the librarian an item that you would like the library to acquire. Alternatively you can enter free text to send to the librarian.
Reading History
From the catalogue home page you may click on 'My reading history' to see a list of items you have borrowed since the new library management system was introduced in April 2008.
About the SMSA Catalogue
The SMSA library catalogue is powered by Koha, the world's first open source integrated library management system. Koha means "gift" in the Maori language of New Zealand. Libraries from around the world have developed and shared this gift since 2000, each adding and improving the software. For information about Koha, visit www.koha.org. Koha version 2.2.9 was implemented at SMSA in April 2008.
